Ketchikan Information
Ketchikan is known for its sportfishing (five species of salmon and halibut), native culture, nature trails, and wildlife. Ketchikan is the “First City” in the Innside Passage. It is a two-hour flight on Alaska Airlines north of Seattle, Washington, or 30 hours north of Bellingham, Washington and six hours north of Prince Rupert, British Columbia by the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system. You can use Ketchikan as your hub to many outlying areas and communities including Misty Fjords National Monument, Prince of Wales Island, Hyder, Wrangell and Petersburg, Alaska.

Transportation
Since the airport is on a separate island from the City of Ketchikan, you will need to take a ferry to the "Ketchikan side".  The walk-on fare is $5 per person.  You will need to carry your own luggage about a city block under a covered handicap accessible walkway.  If you are picking up a rental car, the cost is $6.  The ticket agent is located near the airport ferry loading ramp.  The ferry departs the airport on the hour and half-hour daily.  During the peak summer months when two ferries are operating, there will be a ferry every fifteen minutes between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday only.  Tongass Water Taxi also meets flights at the airport, weather dependent. You will see their personnel in the baggage claim area or you can call (907) 225-TAXI.  The Water Taxi will take you to the dock nearest to where you are staying.  On low tide, the ramp will be steep and you will have to carry your own luggage.  You should ask the agent about the cost.

Taxi cabs are available on the town side at the airport ferry dock and at the Alaska Marine Highway ferry terminal. To homes outside the city, it may be better to rent a car. If you would like to rent a car, we recommend Alaska Car Rental.  They have offices in town and at the airport.  They offer courtesy transfers.  You can get a discount with Alaska Car Rental if you book online and use my code KRSWANDA or you can call toll free 800-662-0007, but you will not get a discount.

The Ketchikan Gateway Borough Transit System operates three routes within the city limits, GREEN LINE, RED LINE and BLUE LINE, daily except for New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.  

The GREEN LINE runs between Walmart at Mile 5 North, through the residential district behind A&P Shopping Center to the University of Alaska, through town along Tongass Avenue, and through the residential district of Bear Valley via Deermount Street by Tatsuda's IGA Grogery. The RED LINE runs between Walmart at Mile 5 North, through town along Tongass Avenue, and as far South as Mile 4/Rotary Beach/Fawn Mtn School.  The BLUE LINE runs between Totem Bight State Historical Park/Mile 10 North, through town along Tongass Avenue to downtown Dock Street/Library.

You can get transfers from one line to another.  Ask the driver about the 25-Ride Punch Pass or Monthly Unlimited Pass.  The fare is $1 (Adult) and $.50 (student 5 years and up) per person (exact change required in U.S. currency). The Transit System also operates two Free Downtown Loop Shuttles.  The Salmon Run Bus operates a 20 minute loop, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. serving all of downtown and cruise ship berths, Discovery Center, Creek Street, Totem Heritage Center, Eagle Sanctuary and Hatchery.  The Bear Shuttle (Downtown Waterfront Loop) runs a 10 minute loop serving all cruise ship berths (operates only when a ship is docked in Berth 4).  Look for the Salmon and Bear signs at Bus Stops.

Deposit and Confirmations
Full payment is required on one and two night stays at the time the reservation is made. A minimum advance deposit of the first two nights paid in full or 50% of the total reservation is required on stays of three (3) nights or more. Upon receipt of your deposit, a confirmation will be sent by mail, fax or e-mail with your bed and breakfast or vacation rental information, map, directions, and travel insurance information. The balance due, if any, is payable to KRS 60 days prior to your scheduled arrival and can be paid by personal check, cashier's check, postal money order or a major credit card.

Cancellations and Refunds
We appreciate notification as early as possible if you need to cancel or change your reservation. All cancellations are subject to a processing fee of $25 plus tax. Cancellation penalties are as follows:

Stays 1-6 nights:	Cancellations made prior to 30 days before the scheduled arrival date are entitled to a full refund less a $25 processing fee. There are no refunds for cancellations made within 30 days of the scheduled arrival date.
Stays 7 nights or more:	Cancellations made prior to 60 days before the scheduled arrival date are entitled to a full refund less a $25 processing fee. There are no refunds for cancellations made within 60 days of the scheduled arrival date.
Travel Insurance:	Travel Guard covers your vacation investment. Coverage includes (but is not limited to) trip cancellation and interruption benefits, medical and medical evacuation benefits, and 24-hour travel assistance.
